One of us: Vilma and Erik
We had the pleasure of asking a few questions to two of our talented junior consultants who joined Pearl one year ago. Read about what Vilma and Erik's says, to get a better understanding of Pearl as a workplace and the value our junior consultants bring to the teams.
Vilma Karlsson
Junior Consultant, Finance, Pearl Sweden
Hi Vilma! Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Hi! My name is Vilma Karlsson and I joined Pearl in 2022 as a trainee in Sweden, as part of Sweden's very first trainee intake. I have a Master's degree in Business and Economics from Linköping University, with some professional experience in finance and payroll. Today I work as a Junior Consultant in the Finance team.
What does your role as a junior consultant actually involve?
Moving from trainee to junior consultant means taking on more tasks independently and carrying greater responsibility towards clients. I contribute to the team by creating capacity and supporting my colleagues so they can focus on the more complex challenges. There is a lot of room to grow as a junior, and I always have people around me who are happy to share their knowledge in areas I want to develop.
What does a typical working day at Pearl look like?
Lately I have been working in a team with several Pearl consultants at a client in Gothenburg. A typical day starts with a morning meeting where everyone is free to ask questions or share updates. These meetings matter a lot for communication and team spirit. Throughout the day I work on a wide range of tasks, from handling support cases directly with the client to working on requests aimed at improving their operations.
In a typical Pearl project, how do you complement the more experienced team members?
As a junior I have less experience than my senior colleagues, so it is natural for me to handle less complex tasks when working independently. At the same time I am involved in all kinds of work because we operate as one team. That is important to me because it means I keep developing.
What is the best thing about working as a consultant at Pearl?
I am still quite new to the industry, so the best thing about Pearl is having so many experienced colleagues to learn from. I know that many of the more senior people genuinely enjoy passing on their knowledge to those of us who are newer. Everyone is very supportive and there is always someone available when you need extra help.
What do you do after work?
I love travelling. I am actually writing this on a plane to Washington! Sun holidays and ski trips are always fun too. I am trying to learn cross-country skiing, though it is going rather shakily. After work you might spot me at Tele2 Arena in a green and white scarf, at a free concert at Gröna Lund, or sitting outside somewhere on Södermalm.
Erik Andersson Nissar
Junior Consultant, Finance and Controlling, Pearl Sweden
Hi Erik! Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Hi! My name is Erik Andersson Nissar and I have been with Pearl for about a year. Before joining Pearl I studied Industrial Engineering and Management for three years at the University of Gävle, including an exchange semester in Germany. At Pearl I specialise in Fiori, Public Cloud and reporting within the Finance team.
What does your role as a junior consultant actually involve?
My role is similar to a standard consultant role, but I focus on less complex tasks. I am currently on two projects: one service project with a client in the steel industry, and another involving implementation in SAP's new Public Cloud solution. As a junior consultant I often act as support for the senior consultants, which means I learn more every single day. But what my role really comes down to is delivering best practice SAP solutions for our clients, together with our skilled colleagues.
What does a typical working day at Pearl look like?
There are hardly any typical days in this industry because IT moves fast and things change constantly. I usually start the day by reviewing my to-do list and joining a meeting with a client or colleague, either online or on site. Then I grab a coffee, respond to client emails on current cases, and focus on technical tasks. If I am not at a client site, I might also get a game of table tennis in at the office.
In a typical Pearl project, how do you complement the more experienced team members?
As a junior I often work on lighter tasks, but tasks that are still highly important for a business implementing SAP. That includes testing or creating training materials for users within the client's organisation. We juniors are trained in the Fiori interface for SAP, which makes us well suited for working with Fiori apps that replace GUI apps for greater productivity. Over time you grow into the role and get the opportunity to take on more complex solutions.
What is the best thing about working as a consultant at Pearl?
The best thing about working as a consultant at Pearl is that it is a challenging role with a wide variety of tasks. There is a lot of room for development and interaction with many different types of clients. I appreciate my colleagues enormously. They are the ones who make it possible for me to grow in the consultant role.
What do you do after work?
After work I enjoy training, going for walks, meeting friends or reading. I think it is important to switch off sometimes because the junior consultant role gets very intense during certain project phases.
